| Phase II -- Mini Mares | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Since Charlie Brown was still a stallion, we thought it would be fun and educational for the kids if we had a mare. After all, we did have a dairy and they knew "something" about animals reproducing! So, my search was on for a mare. I searched the Horse Trader and the internet day and night. I wanted to find one close by so I could travel to "see it" before I buy it. I knew I wanted a "Paint" because that is what I had grown up showing. My parents had raised APHA registered horses. Of course, I eventually found out in the mini and pony world they call them "Pintos"!! |

| I ran across the Unicorner Farm of Axtell, Texas (just east of Waco). Bob and Debbi Brown were very helpful and super friendly. The kids and I went to look at an older pinto mare they had that was also pregnant and due to foal--Concho White Feather. We fell in love with her big blue eyes and the fact she was perfectly proportioned for her size. I made arrangements to purchase Feather. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| While there, my daughter, Maggie, was being followed by a black mare. She reminded me of the Welsh mare my sister and I learned to ride with. Later that week, I called them to ask if they would sell the cute black mare that followed Maggie--Quail Creek Challengers Lyric. |

| Sometime during the night of April 10, Charlie Brown died. Our Vet, Gail Conway, DVM, said it was possibly an aneurysm. We found him looking peaceful under his favorite tree. The kids were devasted, as was I. The next morning, April 11, Bob called to let us know Feather foaled. She had a silver dapple colt. The colt's color was the exact same color of Charlie Brown. Bob and Debbi were kind enough to let us name him--Charlie's Rowdy Feather. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We then made arrangements for picking up the mares and colt. We planned to meet in Glen Rose at a miniature horse show--1999 Daffodil Dandy by the ASPC/AMHR Club of North Texas. This was the icing on the cake for me and my oldest child, Jacob. While we were looking for Bob and Debbi, we watched part of the show and watched people preparing their horses. Jacob watched a youth obstacle class. He immediately said, "I want to do that." I was very intrigued. It gave me a feeling I would get when I had shown full size horses. |

| Bob and Debbi warned me that these little horses were "addictive" and "they were like potato chips, you couldn't have just one". I thought that was strange...to be saying that...I would soon learn the validity of their comments! |
